Project Consulting Intern


The Project Consulting Intern will work closely with the projects team to support delivery of consulting projects related to sustainable development, climate finance and other development impact areas (trade, policy, etc.).  This internship will allow the candidate to gain exposure to IFCL’s clients – Canadian and international organizations – and its work in supporting achievement of SDGs through capacity building, strategic planning, evaluation, and other activities.

The intern will be interacting and working with different team members in various roles and will develop a broad range of transferable skills in the process. By the end of the term, the intern will have gained in-depth exposure to project management tools and will have developed skills in research, strategic planning, teamwork, project management, communications and client relationship management, among others.

Proposed period:  June onwards to November/December 2022. 


This is a 100% remote based internship.  However, as this internship is partially subsidized by the Canadian government under the DS4Y ImpAct program, interested candidates must be based in Canada and meet the eligibility requirements.  


Duties & Responsibilities:

Projects Focused: Support specific projects, especially those related to sustainable development, and climate finance/ESG, to assist Canadian institutions and development finance institutions in meeting their impact objectives. Tasks could include:

  • Research
  • Support to report writing
  • Project coordination
  • Developing visuals, graphics and presentations
  • Assisting Project Managers with maintaining their internal project database accurately and up to date

Communications & Marketing: Support the broader implementation of IFCL’s communication strategy to key stakeholders (e.g., development finance institutions, sustainable development and climate finance players, etc.). Tasks would include:

  • Support on social media
  • Writing articles
  • Updating IFCL’s website
  • Developing presentations and visuals

Knowledge & Skills:

The ideal candidate will bring the following background and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 1 year of relevant work experience. Graduate degree preferred.
  • Previous exposure to development finance institutions, climate finance and/or sustainable finance and/or relevant private sector experience through previous internships, work experience or academic research would be an asset
  • Strong written, research and analytical skills
  • Experience in coordinating and implementing projects preferred
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and maintain quality, detail and organization across multiple assignments
  • Ability to work and coordinate effectively with a remote team
