In 2017, as the host government worked with a regional development bank to operationalize a new export-import bank, International Financial Consulting Ltd. was retained to undertake a comprehensive market evaluation and provide a business plan for the institution. Building on a diagnostic review of existing financial services for trade promotion, we designed and conducted a quantitative and qualitative demand market study. Utilizing a top-down macroeconomic analysis, surveys of banks and exporters, and interviews, our study identified a clear market gap for export credit agency (ECA) product offerings available to competing exporters in other countries. Our analysis identified both export-import product needs and appropriate solutions for the bank, which we incorporated into a detailed Road Map and Business Plan. We also recommended next steps that continue to guide the bank as they work towards their goal of growing international trade in the country.
