When Global Affairs Canada hired us to undertake a 10-Year Review of Export Development Canada (EDC), we designed a multi-stakeholder consultation across the country and around the globe. In Canada, we spoke to exporters and borrowers, as well as representatives of government, commercial banks, private equity funds, and NGOs. Internationally, we drew on our industry network to consult with EDC’s counterparts and a mix of private sector and civil society players. Through town halls, interviews, and online engagement we took the measure of EDC’s reputation, products, services, and relationships, assessing it against the legislative, regulatory and policy framework of the Export Development Act. This review is instrumental to ensuring that EDC’s ongoing evolution and capacity keep pace with the competitive dynamics and demands of international trade.
