Christian Novak possesses over 25 years of experience in development financing and investment banking. Particular expertise in risk management, development financing, private impact investing and governance. Christian’s consulting services have included projects in financial inclusion, development finance, and impact investing, with focus on microfinance, SME finance, sustainable agriculture, and innovative investment structures.
Executed numerous advisory mandates namely in the areas of microfinance, SME finance, and sustainable agriculture, including by structuring innovative investment structures.
In the role of Chief Risk Officer, creation of the risk management team, polices and practice of a leading regional development financial institution.
Co-founder and co-leader of the impact investing team of a major investment bank.
Fundamental role in the creation of the first leading microfinance institution in Argentina, and co-founder of two foundations respectively aimed at fostering education and basic infrastructure.
As an early player in the impact investing space, Mr. Novak’s innovative approach resulted in being involved in transactions that were awarded by recognized organizations, including Ashoka (“Most Creative Ideas of the Year”) and the Financial Times (“Sustainable Deal of the Year”).
Author of various papers, training programs, presentations, and webinars, influencing on the evolution of development financing and impact investing.
Mr. Novak is Managing Partner of FMA - Frontier Markets Advisors and a Professor of Practice at McGill University - Institute for the Study of International Development, where his practice is focused on development financing and private impact investing. He is also Co-Chair of the Sustainability Committee of the Canada Forum for Impact Investment and Development - CAFIID.
His previous experience includes senior emerging markets and global responsibilities in commercial/investment banks and in a leading regional development financial institution, in the areas of risk management, debt capital markets and investment management.
He graduated as a Public Accountant and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the Catholic University of Argentina. Christian is proficient in English, Spanish and French, with basic level of Portuguese.
