Stellah Mutoni is a development finance and impact investing specialist with over eleven years of experience working in the financial services sector in Canada and Sub Sahara Africa; or working in roles that catalyze innovative, market driven, and collaborative approaches to sustainable impact.

Professional Highlights

  • Managed the Sustainability Framework and Reporting project with the Eastern and Southern African Development Bank, in which IFCL’s mandate was to put in place the framework, tools and systems for tracking the impact of the bank’s investments, and ultimately reporting on the results. In charge of content development as well as managing the team of consultants and managing the relationship with the client.
  • Led several financial inclusion projects for World Food Programme, Clinton Development Initiative and GIZ to establish systems for supporting agricultural financing in Malawi.

Outside of IFCL

Prior to joining IFCL, Stellah was at Export Development Canada on the Risk Management Team, where she served as Credit Risk Analyst and Senior Associate Financial Standards Manager in 2012. Thereafter, she had a short stint on Ecobank Zambia’s Corporate Banking Team; and then co-founded and managed GreenRoot Finance Limited, a microfinance company that focused on supporting mostly female entrepreneurs and groups of low-income employees who were traditionally excluded from mainstream commercial credit. In her capacity as Managing Director of GreenRoot, she also led several external consulting projects that focused on financial inclusion in conjunction with several large-scale partners such as GIZ, World Food Program and Clinton Development Initiative.

After seven years of running GreenRoot, Stellah joined an American foundation in the role of Program Manager and co-designed catalytic investment programs to support the agricultural sector in Malawi and surrounding regional economies.
